🔥 Ujjain BJP MLA Mohan Yadav will now lead Madhya Pradesh as its 19th Chief Minister, replacing the long-serving Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
In a surprising yet strategic move, the BJP on 11 December 2023 selected Dr. Mohan Yadav, MLA from Ujjain South, as the new leader of the legislative party and thereby the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
“My name was also a surprise for me,” said Dr. Mohan Yadav after his nomination. He expressed gratitude to PM Modi, HM Amit Shah, and BJP chief JP Nadda.
Post | Name | Constituency | Caste Category |
---|---|---|---|
Chief Minister | Dr. Mohan Yadav | Ujjain South | OBC |
Deputy CM | Jagdish Deora | Malhargarh | SC |
Deputy CM | Rajendra Shukla | Rewa | Brahmin |
Along with the CM post, BJP has announced two Deputy Chief Ministers to balance caste equations in the state. Former Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will be the new Speaker of the Assembly.
Outgoing CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan proposed Mohan Yadav’s name which was unanimously accepted. This decision was made in the presence of senior BJP leaders including Manohar Lal Khattar, K. Laxman and Asha Lakra.
📜 Political Background of Dr. Mohan Yadav:
- Started from student politics through ABVP
- First became MLA in 2013
- Has been MLA for 3 consecutive terms from Ujjain South
- Held ministerial portfolios in Shivraj Cabinet
🗳️ Why Mohan Yadav Was Chosen?
BJP's decision seems based on striking a balance between experience, caste representation (OBC ~52% in MP), and strong RSS backing. Mohan Yadav is considered close to the Sangh and PM Modi.
With this new leadership, BJP looks to retain its stronghold in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the 2024 general elections.
